Michael Happe, the visionary behind Gavox Watches, combines a unique blend of backgrounds and experiences to create his exceptional timepieces. A Belgian native with an American mother and Belgian father, Michael's diverse heritage has shaped his innovative approach to watchmaking.
Initially, Michael pursued a career in agricultural engineering and forestry, which led him to Africa. He worked in the tropical rainforests of Cameroon, where he focused on increasing the revenue of local communities by improving the profitability of coffee and cacao production. This dedication to sustainable development and community enhancement left a lasting impact.
After his time in Africa, Michael transitioned to the field of computer science and IT, becoming a specialist in network and telecom. He worked with renowned companies such as Cisco Systems and IBM, and also in the banking sector. Despite his successful career in IT, Michael's passion for horology remained strong.In 2011, he began creating Gavox Watches, inspired by his grandfather’s legacy with the Flying Tigers. By 2018, he fully dedicated himself to watchmaking, leaving his IT career behind. A significant motivation for this change was a heartfelt conversation with his son, who felt Michael didn't know him well enough due to his demanding work schedule. This realization prompted Michael to pursue his passion and create a more balanced life.
